IPEV: Comprising representatives of a range of French research agencies, IPEV is based in Brest, France and is an administrative organisation for France’s Antarctic research programs. IPEV funds the instrument installation onboard, and the costs of the XBT volunteers.

LEGOS: in Toulouse, France, hosts the Service National d’Observation de salinity de surface (SNO-SSS), and is responsible for the thermosalinograph installation, and the analysis and distribution of the surface thermosalinograph data.

CSIRO: The marine division of Australia’s national research agency is headquartered in Hobart. CSIRO provides technical support for the XBT and thermosalinograph measurements including the instrument maintenance, the development of logging software, the salinity bottle analysis and the XBT data analysis.

SIO: Headquartered in San Diego, Scripps has been influential in the development of sub-surface ocean observing technologies. Scripps organizes the NOAA XBT probes for the research program.

The SURVOSTRAL project is an integral part of the International CLIVAR Southern Ocean program. The XBT measurements are on the IX28 line of the international Ship-of-Opportunity Program SOOP, within the WMO-IOC Technical Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology (JCOMM) program. The thermosalinograph measurements are part of the French National Observation Service for surface salinity (SNO-SSS), part of the international Global Ocean Surface Underway Data (GOSUD) program.

The program receives financial support from the Institut Polaire – Emile Victor (IPEV) and the French National TOSCA program, the CSIRO Division of Oceanography’s Climate Change Program in Australia, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA – USA) through a cooperative agreement NA37GP0518.
