Recent observational and modelling work in the Gulf of Mexico

octobre 9 @ 14h00 - 17h00

– Julio Sheinbaum, Physical Oceanography, CICESE –

Résumé :

The seminar will present an overview of recent observational and modelling results on the physical and biogeochemical oceanography of the Gulf of Mexico and the dynamics of the Loop Current (LC) and its eddy shedding.  Will show some results from the Phyto-bloom project where an LC eddy was intensively surveyed and modelled. Some results involve coupled ocean-atmosphere models with and without current-feedback (Renault et al 2016). Will briefly mention highlights of the observational and modelling work funded by the UGOS  project (Understanding Gulf Ocean Systems, US-National Academies S,E,M) involving methods for real-time transmission of deep-water measurements as well  data assimilation experiments to explore their ability to project surface observations in the vertical under a controlled environment.
